The Wanted Birds

Little Ka was walking around the house. He was looking for a toy he received two days ago as he celebrated his fifth year birthday.

Upon reaching his mother's working table, he saw a figurine of a big bird holding two little birds on both wings. He took it in his hand and stared at it. The big mother was looking down in a sad face, his eyes felt sad too.

His father came in. He saw little Ka with his eyes fixed on the big bird and softly touching the other two birds.

"Hello son!"

His daddy greeted and came close to him. He kneeled himself to be closer face to face with Ka.

Little Ka did not say anything but hand him over the figurine. The father took it in his hand.

"Do you want to know the story of these birds?"

His father asked. Little Ka just nodded.

So the man lifted up the son and had them seated on a couch near them.

The father narrated the story of  The Fallen Birds.

After the story, Little Ka's eyes started to release tears.

"Once I grew up like you, I will search for those two birds and have them cooked by Nanny."

Nanny was little Ka's babysitter who was cleaning his mother's table at the time. She was an old woman in her sixties and has been working as housekeeper of the family to feed her two children and send them to school. She never got married again after their father died when they were still children. Both children have grown and she was left under the care of the family of Ka.

Little Ka went to hug his nanny.

"What am I missing?"

Ka's mother just came in from the kitchen with a piece of cake and a glass of orange juice.

"Is that for me, mommy?"

Ka excitedly asked his mom.

His mom got herself seated beside his dad. Ka went to join them as her mother put down the plate and glass on top of a low table in front of them.

"Yes, darling."

The loving mother responded as she received a kiss on her lips from the husband. Ka loved it when he saw them kissing. He giggled.

"I will tell you the story of the two birds I want Nanny to cook once I find them."

Ka told his mother that brought laughter to his father and babysitter. The mother was amused so she grabbed Ka and put him on her lap

"It must be an interesting story. Now you share it with me."

His mother told him. Then Ka shared the story while grabbing the cake at the same time between pauses as his mother would not let him talk with a mouth full. Everybody enjoyed the second round of the story's narration, but Little Ka's amusing style.
